Joint school concerts to present a "World Music Tour"
*****************************************************

Listening to music from different parts of the world is an enjoyable way of learning about different cultures. The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present six joint school concerts from February 26 to April 9. Participating primary and secondary school students will devise various types of performances, transforming the concerts into a spectacular "World Music Tour".

The first concert will be at 3pm on February 26 (Saturday) in the Auditorium, North District Town Hall. Programme highlights include Jamaican folk song "Mary Ann", Israeli folk song "Shalom to you, My Friend", Dvorak's "Slavonic Dance No. 8" and Elgar's "Salut d'Amour".

The second concert, to be held at 7.30pm on March 9 (Wednesday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, features African pop music's "Tribal World", Latin American religious pieces "Every Time I Feel the Spirit" and "Sit Down", the Caribbean traditional melody "Jamaica Farewell" and several Chinese folk songs.

The third concert will be held at 3pm on March 13 (Sunday) at Ko Shan Theatre. Folk songs from Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, the African Caribbean and Israel will be presented by five school choirs, giving the audience a taste of the diversity of folk music across the continents. There will also be a percussion ensemble performance of the works "Swing Lion" and "Chair Jam", which were composed in the Japanese taiko percussion style.

Tickets priced at $30 for the three concerts are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Credit card booking can be made at 2111 5999, and Internet booking can be made at www.urbtix.hk.

The remaining three joint school concerts will be held at 7.30pm on March 29 (Tuesday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall; at 3pm on April 2 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall; and at 3pm on April 9 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
