Update on cluster of human swine influenza cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a male psychiatric ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which some patients had been confirmed with human swine influenza (HSI), a hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (February 14):

     Three more male patients (aged 27 to 53) in the ward has presented with fever and flu symptoms. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged. Test results of two patients were positive for Human Swine Influenza, while the result of the remaining patient is pending. All three patients are being treated under isolation. They have been prescribed with Tamiflu and are in stable condition.
 
     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
 
     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
