Police to showcase its work at Careers Expo

     The multi-faceted aspects of police work and recruitment information will be shown at the police booth in the four-day Education and Careers Expo starting this Thursday (February 17) with the theme "recruiting talents, training for professionalism and promoting a caring culture".

     There will be a mini range where officers from the Weapons Training Division will demonstrate the use of police equipment.

     The Police Dog Unit, Marine Small Boat Division, Emergency Unit, Traffic Formation, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Airport Security Unit and Identification Bureau will brief visitors on their areas of work and introduce some of their equipment at different sessions.

     Details of the demonstration sessions are as follows:

February 17 (Thursday):
Morning session - Police Dog Unit
Afternoon session - Marine Small Boat Division

February 18 (Friday):
Morning session - Emergency Unit (Kowloon East)
Afternoon session - Traffic (New Territories South)

February 19 (Saturday):
Morning session - Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau
Afternoon session - Narcotics Bureau

February 20 (Sunday):
Morning session - Airport Security Unit
Afternoon session - Identification Bureau

     Officers from the Police Recruitment Division will process applications for police constable and inspector on site. They will conduct initial screening and arrange for the written test. The Auxiliary Police officers will also be present to handle recruitment-related enquiries and receive applications.

     Members of the public are welcome to visit the Police booth at the Expo, which will be held in Hall 1C-E of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10.30am to 7pm on February 17; 10am to 7pm on February 18 and 19; and from 10am to 6pm on February 20. Admission is free.

     To tie in with this year's Careers Expo, the Police Recruitment Division will hold an "Application Express" campaign tomorrow (February 14). Those who wish to join the Force can apply at 13/F Arsenal House, Police Headquarters, 1 Arsenal Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, on or before February 25. Applicants should bring along proof of their academic qualifications (original and duplicate).

     The recruitment target for the financial year 2010/11 is 1,232, comprising 150 Probationary Inspectors (PIs) and 1,082 Recruit Police Constables (RPCs). As at February 1, 126 PIs and 840 RPCs have been recruited. The remaining 24 PIs and 242 RPCs will join basic training courses in March 2011. For the financial year 2011/12, the Force's recruitment target is 920, comprising 170 PIs and 750 RPCs.
