A musical journey through childhood days with Purple Lee
********************************************************

The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra will collaborate with Purple Lee, dubbed "diva of Cantonese songs for children", for three concerts next month (March).

Under the batons of Chan Chiu-yin and Tse Kim-fei, the orchestra will perform "Hong Kong is my Home", "Childhood Memory", "Cartoon Affections", "The Flower Drums of Fengyang", "Boat Dance on Land", "The Olive Tree", "The Green Island Serenade" and Hisaishi's animation theme songs. Purple Lee will perform with the orchestra in singing "The Teacher Is Off Sick", "Skies and Dreams" and "Starlight Memories".

Founded in 1962, the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra is one of the oldest Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong. The orchestra is dedicated to introducing a wide range of Chinese folk music to the public, as well as to providing training and performing opportunities to local young musicians.

The orchestra has recently collaborated with an array of conductors and musicians from the Mainland and Hong Kong. In 2007, the orchestra visited Melbourne for a concert with the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra. The orchestra's performances have received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

A versatile musician as composer, lyricist, arranger and producer, Purple Lee was the first Hong Kong artist to win the "Best Children's Album of the Year" at the Chinese Golden Melody Awards in 2010. Over the years she has been a consecutive winner at TVB Children's Songs Awards, and has won numerous composition awards. In 2004, she gave a charity concert to an enthusiastic full house at Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Besides her extensive work in children's music, Lee actively participates in other music productions and performances.

"When You Were Small - A Journey Through Your Childhood Days with Purple Lee" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The concerts will be held at 8pm, March 5 (Saturday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall; 8pm, March 12 (Saturday), at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre; and 3pm, March 20 (Sunday), at the Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre.
