Entries invited for Basic Law Digital Games Development Contest

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

     The Basic Law Digital Games Development Contest is now open for entries. Digital gaming enthusiasts and other members of the public are welcome to participate.

     The contest is organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB), and co-organised by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Education Bureau, the Department of Justice and Hong Kong Digital Game-based Learning Association. Besides encouraging residents to unleash their creativity, the contest aims to promote a deeper understanding of the Basic Law through interactive and interesting digital games.

     Participants are required to use computer applications Java or Flash to design a digital game with the Basic Law as its theme.

     The contest is divided into three divisions: Student Division (Junior) (Secondary Three or below), Student Division (Senior) (Secondary Four to Post-Secondary), and Open Division. Participants may enter the contest individually or in groups. There is no limit on the number of participants in each group.

     Participants are required to submit by May 31 their entries in duplicate in digital video discs (DVDs) together with the application form, by mail or delivery to Metro Info at Basement 2, Site 6, Whampoa Garden, Hung Hom, Kowloon. "Basic Law Digital Games Development Contest" should be marked on the envelope.

     Winners will be selected based on criteria including relevance to the theme, attractiveness of graphic design, level of amusement, creativity and appeal of the game.

     The winner, first runner-up and second runner-up of the two student divisions will respectively be awarded vouchers valued at $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, while the Open Division's winner, first runner-up and second runner-up will respectively receive vouchers valued at $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000.

     Two workshops will be held from 2pm to 4pm on March 12 and 19 at the Civic Education Resource Centre, 7/F, Youth Square, Chai Wan, where guest speakers will share with participants their views on the Basic Law and useful tips in digital games development.
