Three employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 31) successfully pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $61,000 for nine employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, the defendants, Quan Fat Hing trading as Walter Quan & Co., Sino Gain Credit Management Limited and MK2 Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $32,141.88, $27,169.17 and $1,895 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF account as soon as they are received by the MPFA.

     Meanwhile, the Adjudicator ordered another defendant, Wing Wai Transportation Company Limited, to pay the MPFA a financial penalty of $10,000, which was imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for its employees.

     The Adjudicator further ordered the four defendants to pay $139, $136, $56 and $115 respectively as the costs of the claims.
