Wong Tai Sin District "Safe Community" Designation Ceremony cum Carnival

The following is issued on behalf of the Wong Tai Sin District Office:

     Members of the public are invited to join the "Wong Tai Sin District 'Safe Community' Designation Ceremony cum Carnival" to be held tomorrow (January 29) by Wong Tai Sin District Office and Wong Tai Sin District Healthy and Safe City (WTSDHC) to witness and share the joy of Wong Tai Sin district being certified as a "Safe Community" by the World Health Organization (WHO).

     The carnival will commence at 12.30pm at Wong Tai Sin Square and Wong Tai Sin Temple Court. A wide variety of activities including stage performances, interactive games, exhibitions and game booths will be held, while free souvenirs will be distributed.

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow; the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; and the Commissioner of Correctional Service, Mr Sin Yat-kin, will officiate at the designation ceremony at 1.15pm.

     Initiated by WHO's Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion, the "Safe Community" programme aims to promote a health and safety culture through close collaboration between governments, local organisations and the public. For a community to be designated as a "Safe Community", it must meet all indicators set by WHO and pass a site visit by WHO representatives.
