Update on cluster of Human Swine Influenza cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a male psychiatric ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which some patients have been confirmed with Human Swine Influenza (HSI), a hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (January 26):

     One more 30-year-old male patient in the ward has presented with fever. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged and the outcome confirmed human swine influenza today. The patient is being treated under isolation and has been prescribed with Tamiflu. He is in a stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
