Cluster of Rotavirus cases at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's paediatric infant ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (January 25):

     Three male infants (aged from 8 to 14 months) of the paediatric infant ward at QEH presented with diarrhoea symptoms since January 17.  The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Rotavirus.  They are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission to the affected cubicle of the ward has been suspended and infection control measures have been stepped up.  All exposed patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
