Youth Exchange Session on regulation of cyber cafes (with photos)
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Commission on Youth (COY) organised an exchange session with youths at Sha Tin Town Hall today (January 25). The Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Raymond Young, attended the session and exchanged views with youths on the "Review on the Regulation of Internet Computer Services Centres (cyber cafes)".

Mr Young said, "We note that some members of the community are commenting that the existing legislation does not provide for sufficient regulation of Internet Computer Service Centres (ICSCs), and that this is resulting in problems connected with youths, fire safety and other matters. They suggest that the Government should enhance the regulation of ICSCs.

"The Government is open on whether ICSCs should be regulated. I hope to take this opportunity tonight to exchange views on ICSCs with young people."

The Convenor of the Working Group on International Exchanges and Conferences of the COY, Mr Lai Pui-wing, said that the COY would continue to organise exchange sessions and invite government representatives to attend, so that young people will have more opportunities to exchange views with them on topics of concern.
