A competition inviting the general public, secondary school and university/tertiary students to design a Victoria Harbour icon was launched today (January 11).
The "Eye-On Victoria - Call for Victoria Harbour Icon Design" is co-organised by the Development Bureau, the Civil Engineering and Development Department and the Harbourfront Commission. The competition calls for the creation of "a unique and dedicated icon" for Victoria Harbour.
The winning icon will be adopted by the new harbourfront signage scheme that will be implemented in five pilot districts - Central and Western, Wan Chai, Quarry Bay/Sai Wan Ho, Tsim Sha Tsui/Hung Hom, and Kwun Tong. The signage will be used to guide locals and tourists to nearby harbourfront promenades and parks. The icon will also be used on other promotional tools, such as posters, banners and souvenirs for the wider marketing and branding Victoria Harbour.
The competition is divided into two different groups - the "open group" and the "student group". The open group is for the general public while the student group is open to secondary school (or equivalent) and university/tertiary students. A multi-disciplinary jury panel, led by Mr Michael Miller Yu, will judge the entries. One winning entry and four finalist entries will be selected for each group. The winning entry from the Open Group will be adopted as the icon for Victoria Harbour. Competition prizes and awards are as follows:

4 finalist entries: HK$40,000 cash
Student group

Winning entry: HK$20,000 cash
4 finalist entries: HK$5,000 cash
In addition, an entry will be chosen from among the open group entries as the logo of the Harbourfront Commission. This selected entry will receive a cash cheque of HK$50,000.

Registration for the competition and submission of entries will close on February 11 and March 11 respectively. Interested participants should register by submitting a completed entry form by email to registration@eyeonvictoria.hk. Results of the competitions will be announced through the media, the competition website and an award ceremony in mid-2011. A roving exhibition of entries will follow.
