Public forums to gather views on proposed constituency boundaries for 2011 District Council Election

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

     The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) invites the public to attend forums on proposed constituency boundaries and names for the 2011 District Council Election on December 14 (Tuesday) and December 17 (Friday).

     "Both supporting and dissenting views are welcome," a Commission spokesman said today (December 12).

     The public consultation exercise started on December 3 and continues until January 3, 2011.

     The final recommendations, which will take into account representations received during the consultation period, will be submitted to the Chief Executive by March next year.

     On December 14, public forums will be held for the districts in the New Territories East and West; and on December 17 for districts on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon.  Details are as follows:

     Individuals can also send written representations to the EAC Secretariat (10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai), by fax (2511 1682), or via email (eacenq@reo.gov.hk). The deadline for submissions is January 3, 2011. Late submissions will not be considered. Enquiries can be made at 2827 1269.

     The proposed boundary maps and descriptions of proposed boundaries can be viewed at the Commission's website (www.eac.gov.hk). They are also available for public inspection at the Registration and Electoral Office, District Offices, management offices of public housing estates, post offices, and major and district public libraries.
