The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:
Rents for 12,422 flats in 16 non-standard blocks of the Housing Authority's (HA) six new public rental housing (PRH) estates will be set at the current best rent level of their respective districts. The six new estates are to be completed in the first half of next year.
The best rent at $58.6 per square metre per month for flats in urban districts will apply to the 1,158 flats at Hung Hom Estate, 4,290 flats at Choi Tak Estate, 915 flats at Choi Fook Estate and 2,002 flats at Yau Lai Estate.
The best rent at $56.6 per square metre per month for flats in Kwai Chung district will apply to 1,470 flats at Kwai Luen Estate, and the best rent at $51.3 per square metre per month for flats in Ma On Shan district will apply to 2,587 flats at Yan On Estate.
"Under this rent fixing exercise, the rents of more than 88% of the flats are below $1,900 per month," a spokesman for the HA said today (December 6), adding that PRH rents, inclusive of rates, management and maintenance costs, were heavily subsidised.
"PRH applicants who have been allocated new flats but cannot afford the rent may request refurbished flats with lower rent. They can also apply for the Rent Assistance Scheme where necessary," the spokesman added.
