The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, left Hong Kong for Beijing today (December 6) to attend the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail.
The congress, established by the International Union of Railways in 1992, is held every three years and offers a chance for high-level government officials, railway experts and operators to meet and exchange views. This is the first time the congress has been held outside Europe.
Ms Cheng will attend the opening session of the congress tomorrow (December 7), and she will be one of the keynote speakers at a round-table forum on Wednesday (December 8).
During her stay in Beijing, Ms Cheng will meet with officials of the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Transport and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council to discuss the latest situation regarding cross-boundary transport infrastructure and development.
