************************************************************

The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, today (December 1) thanked the University Grants Committee (UGC) for its enormous contribution towards the review on higher education and its submission of the review report, "Aspirations for the Higher Education System in Hong Kong".

"The Secretary is grateful to the UGC Chairman, Mrs Laura Cha, and Sir Colin Lucas, Convenor of the Higher Education Review Group, for their leadership and thanks other members of the group for their time and dedication in conducting the comprehensive review on higher education," a spokesman for the Education Bureau said.

"The report recommends key strategies for the future development of Hong Kong's higher education sector to meet new challenges ahead.  We will study and examine the recommendations in the report in detail and will consult our stakeholders in the post-secondary education sector before coming to a view for implementation," the spokesman said.

The report can be viewed at Education Bureau's website (www.edb.gov.hk) and UGC's website (www.ugc.edu.hk).
