Stage 1 Public Engagement of Planning and Engineering Study on Development of Lok Ma Chau Loop launched (with video)
************************************************************

The Hong Kong and Shenzhen governments today (November 23) concurrently launched the Stage 1 Public Engagement of Planning and Engineering Study on Development of Lok Ma Chau Loop.

The Study was commissioned in June 2009 with the intention of formulating development proposals for the Lok Ma Chau Loop. In this endeavour, higher education was envisaged as the leading land use, complemented by research and development infrastructure for new high technology facilities, and cultural and creative industries.

"We aim at developing a sustainable, environmentally friendly, energy-saving and people-oriented community on the basis of mutual benefit for both Hong Kong and Shenzhen," a spokesman for the Planning Department said.

The Stage 1 Public Engagement, which will last for two months until January 22, 2011, seeks views from the public of both Hong Kong and Shenzhen on the preliminary Outline Development Plan for the Lok Ma Chau Loop, and development proposals for its surrounding areas, so as to enhance the planning framework.

Public forums will be held in Hong Kong and Shenzhen respectively.  Roving exhibitions displaying relevant information will also be held at various locations in the two cities. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Study's website at www.lmcloop.gov.hk for details of the Stage 1 Public Engagement of the Planning and Engineering Study on Development of Lok Ma Chau Loop.
