What will become of the world when humans are insects? The experiences of a volunteer ... Memories of Queen's Pier ... These are some of the topics of winning works in the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese in 2010.
Organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the prize presentation ceremony for the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese in 2010 was held today (November 18) at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL).
The 47 winning works in six categories were selected from around 1600 entries.
Speaking at the ceremony, the officiating guest, Vice-Chairman of the Public Libraries Advisory Committee, Mr Cheung Chi-kong, pointed out that the competition provided a platform for Chinese literature lovers to compete and exchange experience.
He added that there were many young awardees this year and the competition has encouraged many writers in recent years.
The winning works will on display to the public in the Exhibition Gallery, HKCL from tomorrow (November 19) till November 30. Comments and suggestions made by the judges on the entries will be included in an Adjudication Summary booklet (in Chinese only), which can be found at the Reference Libraries at HKCL, City Hall Public Library, Kowloon Public Library, Tsuen Wan Public Library, Sha Tin Public Library and Tuen Mun Public Library, for public reference.
The Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese were launched by public libraries in 1979 to promote creative writing in Chinese. The competition has helped nurture many budding writers over the years.
