The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 5) successfully pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $43,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Igloo Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $35,438.94 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
Another defendant, Golden Seas Holdings Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $7,644.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $225 and $129 respectively as the costs of the claim.
