11 nominations for Labour Advisory Board Election of Employee Representatives

     The Labour Department has received 11 valid candidate nominations from registered employee unions during the designated nomination period (September 29 to October 21, 2010) for the election of employee representatives to the Labour Advisory Board on November 27 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.  Five candidates will be elected to the board for a two-year term which begins in January, 2011.

     The list of candidates, arranged in the order of the nominations received, are:

  Hong Kong and Kowloon Trades Union Council

* Mr Chung Kwok-sing
  Chairman
  Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

* Ms Ng Wai-yee
  Vice Chairperson
  Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions

* Mr Ching Pak-nin
  Financial Officer
  Bailiff's Assistants Association

* Mr Ng Chau-pei
  Chairman
  Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions

* Mr Leung Chau-ting
  Chairman
  Hong Kong Federation of Civil Service Unions

* Ms Sze Ka-sin
  Secretary
  Hong Kong Life Saving Staff General Union

* Mr Wong Hiu-shan
  Chairman
  Hong Kong Fitness Professionals Association

* Mr Cheung Siu-wing

  Hong Kong Leisure Services Staff General Union

     Meanwhile, 416 employee unions registered as electors with the department have appointed representatives to vote on the election day.

     "Authorised representatives should arrive at the polling station for registration and voting between 11am and 4pm on election day. They must produce their identity documents for inspection by the polling staff before casting votes," a department spokesman said.

     Representatives of the Registry of Trade Unions and the candidates will be present on the election day to supervise the counting of votes.  The Assistant Commissioner for Labour, Mr Ernest Ip Yee-cheung, will act as the Returning Officer.

     The Labour Advisory Board is a tripartite consultative body which advises the Commissioner for Labour on matters affecting its remit.  It comprises 12 members, six representing employees and six representing employers.  Of them, five employee representatives are returned through election by employee unions while five employer representatives are nominated by employer associations.  The remaining employee representative and employer representative are directly appointed by the Government.  The Commissioner for Labour is ex-officio chairman.
