The Maritime Awareness Week (MAW) was rounded off by a beach cleaning day this morning (October 31) at Hung Shing Yeh Beach on Lamma Island.
The beach cleaning day organised by the Institute of Seatransport was aimed at disseminating the environmental protection message by keeping the harbour clean, and promoting the strong presence and unity of the Hong Kong maritime industry to the general public.
About 140 people took part in today's activity during which about 30 bags of refuse were collected from the beach.
MAW, with "Go Maritime, See the World" as the slogan, shows the significance of the maritime industry and the contributions of seafarers to society. It also represents Hong Kong's main contribution to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Year of the Seafarer.
The Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and Hong Kong Shipowners Association jointly organised MAW from October 25 to 31. For more information on MAW, please visit www.maritimeawarenessweek.org.hk/ .
