Ten Hong Kong film directors had lively exchanges with more than 90 students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy in Shanghai today (October 21) during an experience-sharing session. The session greatly enhanced the students' understanding of the cuurent landscape of Hong Kong films.
The directors were Mr Teddy Robin, Mr Clifford Choi, Mr Stephan Yip, Mr Takkie Yeung, Mr Raymond Leung, Mr Jamie Luk, Ms Stella Sze, Mr Kevin Chu, Ms So Ching-lam and Mr Anthony Wong. They are in Shanghai to participate in the Hong Kong Films Retrospective and Hong Kong and Mainland Film Cooperation Business Matching organised by the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC).
The directors briefed the students on the creative development of Hong Kong films in the early days as well as developments in recent years before taking questions. Short videos on Hong Kong film productions were also shown.
The leader of the directors' delegation, Mr Teddy Robin, encouraged the film sectors in Hong Kong and the Mainland to strengthen exchanges and co-operation. He said this could help film co-productions scale new heights.
An official Hong Kong Special Administrative Region programme for Expo 2010 Shanghai China, the Hong Kong Films Retrospective 2010 was launched on October 18. Twenty-three acclaimed Hong Kong films are being shown uncut and in their original language at the theatres of Shanghai United Circuit Co Ltd during the five-day event that runs until October 22.
Along with the retrospective, the FDC is holding the Hong Kong and Mainland Film Cooperation Business Matching to provide a platform for Hong Kong new-generation directors and post-production companies to promote film projects to Mainland investors.
