Government youth portal to hold workshop on natural heritage and moving images production techniques
************************************************************

"Fresh Takes on Nature", a Moving Images Competition for Secondary Students in Hong Kong, is being organised by the government youth portal to increase secondary students' understanding of Hong Kong's natural heritage and resources. At a workshop to be held at the Academy of Film, Hong Kong Baptist University, at 5.30pm on November 5 (Friday), experts will share with students their knowledge of Hong Kong's natural heritage and techniques in moving images production.

Speakers at the workshop will include the Chairman of the Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong, Mr Young C Y Ng; the Education Officer of WWF - Hong Kong, Miss Angela Lam; and MFA student representative of the Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr Wu Yongchao (listed in arbitrary order).

Teachers and students who are interested in joining the workshop can now register online at www.youth.gov.hk/tc/special/freshtakes/registration.htm . Seats are limited and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

The competition encourages students to showcase their creativity by submitting short video clips or moving images (no longer than 180 seconds) on the themes of landforms and rocks, marine environment, wetland ecology and biodiversity to celebrate Hong Kong's geodiversity and natural heritage. Comprising Junior (Secondary 1 to 3) and Senior (Secondary 4 to 7) categories, the competition is open to all secondary students in Hong Kong for the 2010/2011 academic year. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2010.

Interested students are welcome to log on to the competition website (www.youth.gov.hk/freshtakes) and watch video clips on "Interview with a Creature Designer" and "Moving Images and Creativity Wetland Ecology" for reference.

Attractive rewards and prizes will be given to entrants and winners. Each participant will get an admission ticket to the dress rehearsal of "Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular" on a first-come-first-served basis. Members of the finalist teams will be invited to visit the show backstage, and each team will also be given four show tickets. What's more, the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up will have a valuable learning opportunity to join a professional crew to produce short videos on environment and conservation in the community.
