Budding Hong Kong artists take their talent to Shanghai Expo (with photos)
************************************************************

Hong Kong's budding artists have taken their talent to Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) as part of Hong Kong Week activities starting today (October 18).

"Budding Winter", an installation art display and interactive art experience, features the work of students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University.

Their works include a mix of video, installation art and mixed media and are on display at the Baosteel Stage (Interactive Zone) in the Expo Park's Pudong site.

"Budding Winter" demonstrates how art can extend beyond the walls of museums and galleries to provide young artists with an opportunity to display their work in an open, public space.

It also enables visitors to interact with artwork in a lively and inviting environment.

Launched in November 2009, "Budding Winter" is a large-scale public arts programme organised by the Home Affairs Bureau in collaboration with the four universities.

More than 180 artists took part in the inaugural "Budding Winter" to display artworks and stage a number of activities and performances in Hong Kong Park, Kowloon Park, Sha Tin Park and Tuen Mun Park. The two-month project served as a platform to nurture budding artists and to bring art into the community.

Apart from selected artworks on display at Baosteel Stage, there will be a video and photo exhibition documenting how "Budding Winter" was staged in Hong Kong.

Participating young artists will also host interactive workshops at the Baosteel Stage to provide a platform for cultural exchanges with Expo visitors.

Their participation in Shanghai Expo offers them a unique opportunity to broaden their horizons as well as a chance to promote community art and cultural exchange at an international mega event.

"Budding Winter" will be staged every day during the five-day Hong Kong Week from October 18 to 22.
