About 30 artists from Hong Kong and Shanghai gathered today (October 15) at Shanghai's Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) to exchange views on contemporary art and creativity.
This cross-city artistic seminar coincided with the "Legacy and Creations - Art vs Art" exhibition currently being held in MOCA (until November 12) as part of a special Hong Kong cultural programme for Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo).
The exhibition showcases 16 works by local artists revealing the creative vision of contemporary art in Hong Kong and giving exposure to the diversity of art produced in the city both by masters and young talent.
Addressing today's seminar, the Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Mr Tang Hoi-chiu, said: "The exhibition is staged to tie in with the Shanghai Expo theme 'Better City, Better Life', while the seminar is organised to promote cultural and artistic exchange.
"Rapid urban encroachment and shortage of space have an impact on city life as well as on the development of art," he added.
"Similar to the universe, art reflects complexities born out of conflict and chaos. While different systems of art have diverse values and characteristics, they may complement and enrich each other in creating happy surprises.
"I therefore believe that the exhibition will provide much inspiration for our edification," Mr Tang said.
Those attending today's seminar included visual artists, scholars and art critics who exchanged views and ideas on a number of issues, such as city space, the humanistic spirit, popular culture and the co-existence of Eastern and Western elements.
