Nine employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 13) successfully pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $132,000 on behalf of 19 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, the nine defendants, namely Panevino Limited, Suen Kin Chung trading as Cheong Wah Company, Tack Cheung Textiles Limited, Law Chi Ming formerly trading as Juan Tin Trading Company, Full Success Holdings Limited, Sun Harvest International Limited, Island Concepts Limited, Jetmax Logistics Limited and The Seasons Trading Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $34,686.75, $34,530.91, $33,058.34, $9,240, $7,163.71, $7,124.25, $6,300, $421.5 and $120 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $170, $209, $203, $129, $80, $96, $135, $106 and $79 respectively as the costs of the claims.
