The Legislative Council (LegCo) launched its first exhibition today (October 11) to enhance public understanding of the work of LegCo members and the LegCo Secretariat. The exhibition will last for five days until this Friday (October 15).
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the LegCo exhibition, President of the LegCo, Mr Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, said that the work of LegCo was closely related to members of the public and involved public engagement, like seeking public views on certain policies. "Other than attending meetings, LegCo members have many other duties to perform. In order to let the public get to know more about the LegCo and its members, there is a need to introduce the Council to the community more comprehensively." He said.
Mr Tsang said that this was the first stop of the exhibition on LegCo and there would be more of this kind of exhibitions to be held in different locations around the territory in future. He hoped that more members of the public would participate in these exhibitions.
Chairman of House Committee, Ms Miriam Lau Kin-yee, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Fred Li Wah-ming, joined Mr Tsang to officiate at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Other members attending the ceremony included Ir Dr Raymond Ho Chung-tai, Ms Li Fung-ying, Mr Wong Kwok-hing, Mr Paul Chan Mo-po and Mr Wong Yuk-man.
During the period of the exhibition, exhibition panels featuring the composition, power and functions of LegCo, the work of a member, public engagement in the work of LegCo, the new LegCo Complex and the LegCo Secretariat will be displayed. A video introducing the work of LegCo and a 3D model of the new LegCo Complex will be incorporated as part of the exhibits.
Moreover, a photo corner will be set up for individual members to meet the public and take photos with them. Interactive computer games on LegCo will also be available to foster a more joyful and pleasant atmosphere for the event.
