Register early to enjoy discounted fees for world congress on parks, recreation and tourism

     Members of the public and full-time students studying in local tertiary/post-secondary institutions are invited to register early for participation in the International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration World Congress Hong Kong 2010 to be held in mid-November this year.

     Those who register on or before October 15 will enjoy a discounted registration fee of $1,200 per day (the registration fee of $1,450 per day will apply for registration after that date).  Full-time students will enjoy a special registration fee of $50 per day.

     Registration can be submitted on line through the congress's dedicated website (www.ifpra2010.lcsd.gov.hk).     

     The International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration (IFPRA) World Congress Hong Kong 2010, jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Recreation Management Association, will be structured around the theme "Quality Services - Parks, Recreation and Tourism".  Three sub-themes, namely "sustainable development in parks, recreation and tourism"; "advances in technology and the development of parks, recreation and tourism", and "heritage preservation" will be discussed at the congress.

     The congress will be held at Hong Kong City Hall between November 15 and 18 for leading experts in different disciplines in the leisure, recreation and tourism fields from all over the world to share their management experience and latest research findings on the respective fields.
 
     The congress will feature a balanced mix of keynote speeches, a series of parallel sessions, poster viewing, trade exhibitions and technical visits.  Participants will have the opportunity to interact with professionals and peers from around the word and to learn about the latest trends and developments in related fields.
     
     The IFPRA is a renowned international non-profit-making organisation comprising representatives from over 50 countries/regions who are professionals in the fields of parks, recreation, amenities and leisure services.  Its main aims and objectives cover the advancement of parks, recreation, cultural and leisure services through representation and dissemination of information, adoption of international training and qualification standards, promotion of research, and establishment of national recreation and park associations.

     The IFPRA World Congress is held every three years in cities around the world.  The last two world congresses were held in Hamamatsu, Japan, in 2004 and in Dublin, Ireland, in 2007.  Hong Kong was the host city for the 1992 world congress.  In between two consecutive IFPRA world congresses, an Asia Pacific Congress and a Europe Congress will be held.  

     The International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration World Congress Hong Kong 2010 is supported by government departments and organisations including the Architectural Services Department, Civil Engineering and Development Department, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Tourism Board and Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects.
