The Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) arrested 10 men and two women for suspected student loan fraud.
In early September, CCB received a report of suspected false loan application relating to Non-means-Tested Loan Scheme (NLS) involving two private education centres in Yau Ma Tei.
Subsequent to in-depth enquiry, CCB has discovered that the two education centres offered a series of courses and suspected conspired with a number of students to make false loan application to the Student Financial Assistance Agency amounting to $3.1 million between June and August.
CCB officers took actions today (October 7) and arrested nine students comprising seven men and two women, and three men who were directors of the education centres in various locations.
Police also conducted searches at the education centres and residence of the arrested persons and seized a large quantity of exhibits including documentary and computer records for the related courses.
The arrestees, aged between 21 and 49, were arrested for suspected conspiracy to defraud. They are still being detained for further investigation.
