LegCo Members visited New Territories North Animal Management Centre (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     Members of the Legislative Council Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene visited to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department's (AFCD) New Territories North Animal Management Centre in Sheung Shui today (October 6) to have a better understanding of the management of stray animals caught or animals received by the Department.

     Members toured the facilities at the centre such as stray dog kennel, quarantine room and observation kennel. They also received a briefing from a veterinary officer of the AFCD to learn more about the operation of the centre and the procedure of handling stray or received animals.

     The New Territories North Animal Management Centre is one of the four animal management centres managed by the AFCD. These centres are responsible for rabies control, animal quarantine and related law enforcement. Stray animals caught or animals received from owners will first be sent to the centres for proper handling.

     Members who participated in visiting the Animal Management Centre include Hon Fred Li Wah-ming, Chairman of the Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene; Hon Wong Kwok-hing (Panel members) and Hon Chan Hak-kan (non-Panel Members).
