Tsuen Wan District Secondary Schools and Uniformed Groups Flag Raising Ceremony cum Parade (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Tsuen Wan District Office:

     In celebration of the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Tsuen Wan Preparatory Committee of National Day Celebration (the Committee), Tsuen Wan District Office and Tsuen Wan School Development Section co-organised the "Tsuen Wan District Secondary Schools and Uniformed Groups Flag Raising Ceremony cum Parade" at Tsuen Wan Sha Tsui Road Playground today (October 1).

     The flag raising ceremony, performed by the Civil Aid Service, commenced at 10am.  Students from 16 secondary schools and uniformed groups in Tsuen Wan participated in the parade. The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, was invited as the inspecting officer of the parade. The celebratory event had attracted the attendance of many Tsuen Wan residents, creating a festive atmosphere.

     The Tsuen Wan District Council Chairman, Mr Chau How-chen, praised that all parade group members today had performed very well and demonstrated a sterling team spirit. He hoped that this celebratory event would continue annually in the district so that residents could also share the joy of the National Day.

     Tsuen Wan District Officer, Mr Cheung Doi-ching, said, "Participating in uniformed groups services can allow youths to develop their confidence through teamwork, while establish an optimistic life attitude and a sense of belonging to the nation."

     The executive chairman of the Committee, Mr Tang Kam-hung, emphasised the wide range of festive and blissful activities arranged by the Committee annually for the district. He was also delighted that the Secretary for Education had joined the meaningful family carnival held at the Princess Alexandra Community Centre after the parade, whereby families enjoyed a harmonious afternoon through stall games and performances.

     The parade and family carnival held today demonstrated the diversity of community activities in Tsuen Wan, promoting the significance of civic education and a positive morale in life for the younger generation.
