The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (September 30) departs for Gifu, Japan to attend the 17th Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministerial Meeting and related symposium.
The theme of this year's meeting, to be held on October 2 and 3, is "Strategy for Reinvigorating Economic Growth with Dual Engine: SME and Asia-Pacific Economy". Ministers from the APEC member economies will review the impact of the economic crisis on SMEs and share their views on the counter measures taken in response to the crisis. They will also discuss ways to assist SMEs to achieve sustainable growth and the long-term growth strategy for SMEs in the APEC region.
On October 1, Mr So will attend the APEC Symposium on SMEs as one of the speakers. The Symposium will bring together policymakers, scholars and business people from different economies and places to exchange views and knowledge on economic growth and SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr So will return to Hong Kong on Sunday (October 3).
