The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 28) obtained 2 orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $192,000 against 2 employers in the District Court.
The District Court today granted 2 judgments against 2 employers, namely Asia Intelligence (H.K.) Limited and Jacques Design Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $136,368.76 and $56,001.26 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 131 and 8 employees of the respective defendants.
Meanwhile, the MPFA successfully pursued 4 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $89,000 on behalf of 16 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearings today, one of the defendants, Heroism Enterprise Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $25,200, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, namely Wah Tai Farm Company Limited, Silver Hill Atelier HK Limited and Ocean Leader Enterprises Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $39,025.92, $23,902.5 and $1,643.75 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered each defendant to pay costs of $930. The Tribunal ordered the four defendants to pay $136, $202, $152 and $76 respectively as the costs of the claims.
