The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (September 25) presented commendation certificates to 33 volunteer leaders of 11 youth uniformed groups in recognition of their long service in promoting youth training and development.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Tsang said, "Through various programmes to strengthen their skills and discipline, youngsters will be able to receive all-round training." He encouraged young people to be more proactive, responsible, and caring for their home country and the society.
Mr Tsang wished the commendations would encourage the younger members of the uniformed groups to continue to serve the community.
He stated that the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth together with the uniformed groups will organise the "Uniformed Groups Day 2010" on November 21, in which the public will be able to understand the achievements of the uniformed groups in the areas of youth education and community services over the years.
All the volunteer leaders commended in the ceremony have been providing services for a long period in their respective uniformed groups. Eleven of them have served in their groups for 20 years and another 11 for 30 years or more.
