The Government today (September 24) gazetted the Toys and Children's Products Safety Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 2) Notice 2010, which seeks to update the safety standards for six types of children's products designated under the Toys and Children's Products Safety Ordinance (Cap. 424).
These children's products are baby walking frames, child safety barriers for domestic use, children's cots for domestic use, children's paints, playpens for domestic use and wheeled child conveyances.
The ordinance stipulates that no person shall manufacture, import or supply any designated children's product unless it complies in all respects with the safety standards listed in the Ordinance. The standards stipulated are international standards or standards adopted in major economies. The Government keeps in view changes to the safety standards promulgated by the relevant standards institutions so as to update the standards applicable to products supplied in Hong Kong.
The relevant standards institutions have amended some of the safety standards for the six types of children's products. The notice seeks to update the relevant standards listed in the ordinance.
The notice will come into operation on December 1, 2010.
