Hong Kong's character revealed in e-booklet

     A booklet that captures the essence of Hong Kong has now gone digital. Packed with interesting facts, figures and photos, "This is Hong Kong" illustrates why the city is such a special place ¡V and can be viewed at www.brandhk.gov.hk/booklet .

     This pocket-sized booklet, the third edition since its launch in 2008, is one of the key Brand Hong Kong (BrandHK) publications produced every year to introduce Hong Kong and its city brand to overseas audiences.  

     Available in English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese, the latest edition of "This is Hong Kong" was published in May and has since been widely distributed on the Mainland and overseas.  

     Designed to highlight the revitalised BrandHK introduced earlier this year, the booklet takes a look at the city's core values and attributes ¡V its personality ¡V and what makes it stand out from the crowd.

     It explains BrandHK's refreshed dragon icon and reveals what makes Hong Kong a diverse, dynamic and cosmopolitan city, closely connected to the rest of Asia and the world while offering a secure environment to live and work.

     The booklet highlights Hong Kong's values of freedom and enterprise, its spirit of innovation and excellence and its people's aspirations for quality living and a modern, balanced lifestyle. There are also essential statistics about the city's economy, snippets on must-see destinations and some surprising trivia.

     Together, these elements combine to make Hong Kong a city of colour and contrast ¡V a bustling international finance, trading, tourism and transport hub with majestic skyscrapers ¡V as well as a city of nature, with scenic hiking trails, amazing rock formations and a huge biodiversity.

     With the digital version now available on the BrandHK website, local residents can easily share its content with friends outside Hong Kong. The online version is also more user-friendly for teachers and students to gain easy access to the wealth of information on Hong Kong's unique characteristics and competitive position.

     Live e-links in the booklet take readers to other websites offering details on everything from city festivals, theme parks and universities to museums, sports events, biodiversity and local transport.

     The e-booklet is just one of many interesting features to be found at www.brandhk.gov.hk . For example, over a thousand people have contributed personal photographs along with their own reflections on Hong Kong at www.brandhk.gov.hk/en/myHK/faces.html , giving the viewer a realistic glimpse of everyday life in the city. Their photos are supplemented by video interviews, with people from across the community voicing their perceptions of Hong Kong and what makes it tick.  

     Other website attractions include Fun Facts ¡V a pictorial guide to some of the city's most amazing facts ¡V and a guide to "what's on" in Hong Kong.

     Anyone looking for greater detail about the city's economy and infrastructure should take a look at the Fact Sheets, which cover a range of topics from business and education to design and tourism.

     Locally, the booklet is available at the public enquiry counters of the 18 Government District Offices and at major Leisure and Cultural Services Department venues.
