Man jailed for conspiracy to trafficking in dangerous drugs

     A 43-year-old man was sentenced to 27 yearsˇ¦ imprisonment at the Court of First Instance for conspiracy to trafficking in dangerous drugs today (September 20).

     The Court heard that on August 28, 2008, officers of Narcotics Bureau conducted an operation and intercepted a private car parked outside Wah Yau House of Tin Wah Estate in Tin Shui Wai. They arrested the 43-year-old male driver and a 23-year-old man when he got on the car. About 4.68 kilograms of ˇ§Iceˇ¨ worth about $2.7 million were seized inside the bag carried by the young man.

     The 43-year-old man was later released due to insufficient evidence. The 23-year-old man was charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs. He pleaded guilty at the Court of First Instance and was sentenced to 16 years and six months' imprisonment in March 2009.

     Upon extensive investigations and the information provided by the young man, Police arrested the 43-year-old man again on September 11, 2009. The man was subsequently charged with one count of conspiracy to trafficking in dangerous drugs.

     The man was convicted and sentenced to 27 yearsˇ¦ imprisonment today.
