In response to media enquiries about a judgment handed down by the Court of First Instance on September 13 on a case regarding rent and rates concessions for a recipient of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) issued the following statement:
"The Director of Social Welfare today (September 20) made an application for leave to appeal against the judgment of the Court of First Instance.
According to legal advice, the decision of the Court of First Instance involves questions of law of general public importance. The Administration therefore considers it necessary to seek clarification from the Court of Appeal.
Since the appeal against the judgment has been instituted, the SWD will not further comment on the case."
