Xinjiang troupe to stage record-breaking acrobatic drama
********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Cheers" series presents acrobatic drama "Hello Nasirdin Apandim" by the Xinjiang Acrobatic Troupe of China. The show's debut in Hong Kong features the spectacular aerial walk "Uygur¡VDawaz" which has made the Guinness World Records 15 times.

"Uygur-Dawaz" is also on The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and has won awards in the National Minorities Traditional Games of the PRC eight times.

The preparations for and creation of "Hello Nasirdin Apandim" took four years to complete. Its gala premiere took place in 2009 in the People's Theatre in Xinjiang, after which it had a record-breaking run of four months, with a total of more than 100 shows. The Legend of Apandim is about a wise and kind man who helps others to realise their dreams: A sad, helpless little girl's fairytale dream comes true; the young lazy craftsmen spring to action with gusto; a lively little donkey is saved and gives out warmth; a timid youth regains the courage to face challenges; a beautiful swan struggles free and dances again. Stunts including "Rolling with Lamps", "Uygur-Dawaz", "Kicking and Balancing Bowls on a Tall Unicycle" and "The Wheel of Life" in romantic, dream-like settings will give patrons unforgettable moments of twists and surprises.

The Xinjiang Acrobatic Troupe of China was founded in 1962. It is composed of Uygur, Han, Kazak, Hui and other ethnic groups who perform acrobatics, conjuring, funny acts, folk songs and dance, Uygur-Dawaz and other arts. It is an outstanding performing-arts troupe with unique national and geographical characteristics. The troupe has garnered many gold, silver and bronze Lion Awards in Mainland acrobatic festivals. The troupe has also won acclaim touring in more than 20 countries and regions including Pakistan, India, Canada, Russia, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
