The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a wide range of activities including lantern carnivals, thematic lantern exhibitions and a lantern design competition entries exhibition to celebrate the coming Mid-Autumn Festival. Admission to all activities is free.
Featuring a variety of entertainment programmes, lantern carnivals will be held at Tsing Yi Park on September 21, at Victoria Park on September 22, and at Tai Po Waterfront Park on September 23.
The highlight of the three lantern carnivals will be Chinese ethnic songs and dance, and acrobatics performances from the Mainland supported by the Office for Cultural Affairs with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. It features Changbai Korean Nationality Autonomous County Song and Dance Ensemble of Jilin Province and Hebei Acrobatics and Magical Group of China.
All three carnivals are decorated with beautiful lanterns and will be open to the public from September 18 to 23. The Victoria Park carnival features Chinese folk arts such as calligraphy and painting, paper cutting, procelain, shadow play and masks for Chinese traditional opera. Tsing Yi Park will be decorated with lanterns of flowers in various shapes, accompanied by live music performances, making the Park a glittering and colourful garden of lanterns and music. At Tai Po Waterfront Park, splendid lantern installations include lovely dolls in different ethnic costumes, Taiwan sky lanterns, and displays featuring the North Pole, Africa tropical rainforest and subtropical ocean will be exhibited.

1. New Territories West Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
September 21 (Tuesday), 7.30pm-10.30pm
Tsing Yi Park
Programme: Chinese ethnic songs and dances, acrobatics, pop music and tap dance, Chinese instrumental music, origami workshop, make-a-wish corner, lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern installations
2. Urban Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
September 22 (Wednesday), 8pm-11pm
Victoria Park
Programme: Chinese ethnic songs and dances, acrobatics, fire dragon dancing parade, pop concert, Chinese traditional stage arts, Chinese instrumental music, film show, origami workshop, make-a-wish corner, lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern installations
3. New Territories East Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
September 23 (Thursday), 7.30pm-10.30pm
Tai Po Waterfron Park
Programme: Chinese ethnic songs and dances, acrobatics, Chinese instrumental music, a cappella and music theatre, site-specific dance, film show, origami workshop, make-a-wish corner, lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern installations
There are also thematic lantern exhibitions: "The Rhapsody of Hong Kong Memories" at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza from now until October 17, and "All about the Moon" at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade until September 24.
"The Rhapsody of Hong Kong Memories" exhibition at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre depicts the daily lives of Hong Kong people since 60s. It is a collection of scenes of old Hong Kong, bringing back lots of cherished memories in those days. "All about the Moon" exhibition at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade features about stories of the Moon in various countries, displaying how their rituals and traditions related to the myths of the Moon.
An exhibition featuring the winning designs and all entries of the 2010 Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition will be held at the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, from September 16 to 25.
People are urged not to litter and burn wax while celebrating the festival.
