The Anti-Shop Theft Comic Sticker Competition, co-organised by the Fight Crime Committee Publicity Sub-Committee and the Police Public Relations Branch, will be open to all primary and secondary students for enrolment tomorrow (September 15).
As part of the Fight Crime Publicity Campaign 2010/11, the competition aims to encourage youngsters to show their creative talent through the design of comic stickers, and at the same time to promote anti-shop theft messages and instill positive values in young people, reminding them not to be greedy and not to shoplift.
A Police spokesman said, "By adopting a medium favoured by most teenagers, it is hoped that more students will join the competition and, through the creative process, understand the severe consequences of shop theft, which will help them stay alert and prevent them from committing the offence.
"To further the publicity, winning entries will be produced as stickers for display at convenience stores, supermarkets and retail outlets. We believe that vivid and interesting comic strips will disseminate the anti-crime message to the public more effectively."
The competition will be conducted in two categories: primary school and secondary school. Each contestant may only submit one entry in the form of one or two comic strips to convey positives messages such as "don't be greedy" or "being a law-abiding citizen". The deadline for enrolment is October 8, 2010, and all entries should be submitted by October 25, 2010.
A champion, first runner-up, second runner up and five merit prizes will be awarded in each category. Results will be announced in November.
The leaflet and entry form for the competition can be downloaded from the Hong Kong Police webpage (www.police.gov.hk). For enquiries, please call 2860 6169.
