New radio/ TV commercial "Give Blood @ 18, Saving Lives is Cool" launches (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) will launch a new radio and TV commercial on blood donation featuring the slogan "Give Blood @ 18, Saving Lives is Cool" tomorrow (September 14) to motivate more people aged 18 or above to give blood.  Pop singer Eason Chan is acting in the promotional film.  

     The BTS spokesperson said, "In addition to all local TV and radio channels, the commercial and clips taken during the filming will also be available for viewing at the BTS website at www.ha.org.hk/rcbts on the same day.  Also, a poster featuring the commercial will soon be displayed territory-wide" (see attached photo).

     To encourage young people to donate blood, the BTS has launched the Student Regular Blood Donation Programme.  During this school year (from September 1, 2010, to August 31, 2011), student donors will be given an "I love giving blood" folder for their first donation and an"I love giving blood" badge boxset with nine cute badges for the second donation (see attached photo).

     People aged from 16 to 65, who weigh over 41 kilograms (about 90 pounds) and are in good health are welcome to give blood.  Males can give blood every three months and females every four months; youngsters aged 16 or 17 can donate blood every six months with parents' consent for the first donation.
