The Legislative Council Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene began its four-day duty visit to Japan yesterday (September 8).
During its stay in Tokyo, the delegation visited the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to learn about the Japanese Government's policy on columbarium development. The delegation also received a briefing by and exchanged views with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on Japan's food surveillance system and measures against food poisoning.
The delegation also visited the Tama Reien, a cemetery run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the Tokyo Gobyo, a four-storey mechanised columbarium operated by a religious group.
The delegation departed for Sapporo this morning (September 9) and visited food processing factories to learn about Japan's fisheries industry.
The delegation is led by the Chairman of the Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene, Hon Fred Li Wah-ming. Other members include Hon Wong Yung-kan, Hon Tam Yiu-chung, Dr Hon Joseph Lee Kok-long, Dr Hon Leung Ka-lau (Panel members), Hon Chan Kam-lam, Hon Lau Kong-wah, Hon Li Fung-ying and Hon Chan Hak-kan (non-Panel Members).
