Delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Health Services completed its three-day duty visit to Tokyo, Japan yesterday (September 7). Delegation leader and Chairman of the Panel on Health Services Dr Hon Joseph Lee Kok-long described the visit as useful in enabling Members to gain a better understanding of how healthcare financing works in Japan and the challenges faced by the authorities and other stakeholders.
"The delegation is particularly impressed by the strong commitment of the government and local organisations in providing effective and sustainable primary care to the elderly and the mentally handicapped," Dr Hon Joseph Lee Kok-long said.
On the last day of the visit, the delegation visited the Fukushi (Welfare) Plaza Sakurakawa, The Social Welfare Corporation Nagaoka and Shinjuku Keyakien (nursing home) to receive a briefing on the operation of nursing homes in providing care to the elderly and mentally handicapped. The delegation also paid a visit to the Sanno Hospital and Medical Centre to understand the operation of private hospital in Japan.
