The Legislative Council Panel on Health Services departed for Tokyo, Japan today (September 5) to begin its three-day overseas duty visit.
The purpose of the visit is for Members to gain a better insight into the experience and operation of Japan's healthcare financing, including the operation of its health insurance system. The delegation will also exchange views with officials involved in the provision of primary care.
During its stay in Tokyo, the delegation will meet with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Health Insurance Claims Review and Reimbursement Services. The delegation will also visit a public hospital and a private hospital to obtain first-hand information on their respective operation and two nursing homes to understand the operation of these homes in providing care to the elderly and the mentally handicapped.
The itinerary of the visit is as follows:

The delegation is led by Dr Hon Joseph Lee Kok-long, Chairman of the Panel on Health Services. Other Members include Dr Hon Leung Ka-lau, Hon Fred Li Wah-ming and Hon Chan Hak-kan (Panel members), and Hon Chan Kam-lam, Hon Wong Yung-kan, Hon Lau Kong-wah, Hon Tam Yiu-chung and Hon Li Fung-ying (non-Panel Members).
