The spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital issued the following updates today (September 1) regarding some cases of Human Metapneumovirus in a male psychiatric ward:
One more male patient (aged 49) and one staff member in the concerned ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms. The patient has been treated under isolation and is in stable condition, while the staff member is on sick leave.
In addition, four more patients (aged from 20 to 46) in another concerned ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of two of them are positive to Rhinovirus. The patients have been treated under isolation and are in stable condition.
Admission and visiting to the wards concerned have been suspended and infection control measures of the ward have already been stepped up. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
