FSD Memorial Ceremony for Ms Yeung Yee-kam (with photos)

     The Fire Services Department (FSD) this afternoon (August 31) held a memorial ceremony to mourn for the late Ms Yeung Yee-kam who died in the recent hostage incident in Manila, Philippines. Ms Yeung had been posted to FSD since 1994.

     The ceremony was held at the Fire Services Officers' Mess in Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station. About three hundred people, who were Ms Yeung's relatives and colleagues, attended the ceremony to pay their respects. Among them were the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang; the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue; the Under Secretary for Security, Mr T K Lai; the Director of Fire Services, Mr Lo Chun-hung, and other officials from the Government.

     Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lo said that Ms Yeung's death had caused sadness and grief all over the Department, no matter civilian or uniformed members.

     He said that esprit de corps was part and parcel of FSD and the loss of any member would deal a heavy blow to the Department.
  
     Mr Lo also sent condolences and regards to other victims in the incident and their families.
 
     Also speaking at the ceremony was FSD Departmental Secretary, Mrs Daphne Cheung. She said Ms Yeung had joined the civil service since 1981 and was posted to FSD in 1994. She was promoted to the rank of Assistant Clerical Officer in 1998.

     Mrs Cheung praised the late Ms Yeung for her excellent work performance, adding that she was well received by her colleagues. Mrs Cheung said all staff members in the Department were deeply saddened by her death.
