The Fight Crime Committee Report No. 29, which gives a detailed account of the committee's work in 2009, was released today (August 31).
During the year, the committee monitored the overall crime situation, the commercial crime situation and the progress of the Police Superintendents' Discretion Scheme, implemented fight crime publicity work and oversaw the work of the District Fight Crime Committees. The committee also examined the publicity campaign for rehabilitated persons carried out by the Correctional Services Department in 2009-10, the progress on the implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse as well as the drug testing proposals.
The report covers the work of the two sub-committees under the Fight Crime Committee - the Standing Committee on Young Offenders and the Publicity Sub-Committee - and the work of the 18 District Fight Crime Committees.
Chaired by the Chief Secretary for Administration, the Fight Crime Committee comprises seven other senior government officials and eight non-official members. It is tasked to draw up plans to reduce crime, to co-ordinate efforts in fighting crime and monitoring the results, and to encourage the public to participate in crime prevention work.
Copies of the report are now available at all the District Offices of the Home Affairs Department. The report has also been uploaded onto the Security Bureau's website at www.sb.gov.hk.
