Regarding a male ward for the severe mentally handicapped of Siu Lam Hospital in which six patients had been confirmed with Human Influenza A (H3) infection, the hospital spokesman issued the following update today (August 28):
One more patient (aged 20) in the ward had presented with fever and flu symptoms. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for him. Test result was found positive to Human Influenza A (H3). The patient is being treated under isolation and in stable condition.
Admission to the ward is suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward have been imposed and infection control measures have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
