Local pianist Raymond Young will perform a selection of Schumann and Chopin's compositions in September.
The programme comprises Schumann's "Arabeske, Op.18" and "Kreisleriana, Op.16", and Chopin's "Nocturne in E-flat, Op.9, No.2", "Ballade No.3 in A-flat, Op.47", "Mazurka in A Minor, Op.17, No.4", "Mazurka in C-sharp Minor, Op.30, No.4", "Polonaise-Fantaisie in A-flat, Op.61", and "Scherzo No.2 in B-flat Minor, Op.31".
Raymond Young started learning piano at the age of 11. He graduated with a Master of Arts degree in both performance and accompaniment, and a diploma in piano pedagogy, from the prestigious University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he lived for 11 years.¡@He is the first pianist from Hong Kong to be awarded the highest scholarship by the Austrian Government. On account of his achievements and numerous recommendations, he was also granted Austrian citizenship.
As one of Hong Kong's most versatile pianists, Raymond Young was the first-prize medallist in the two-piano section and the silver medallist in the duet section at the International Piano Competition in Rome, Italy. He was honoured with a Promising Young Artist Award at the Braunschweig Classix Festival in Germany, and was invited to perform again. Young performs extensively as a soloist and chamber music player, collaborates with singers and instrumentalists, appears on radio broadcasts, conducts master classes and lectures in Hong Kong and around the world.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Our Music Talents' Series: Piano Recital by Raymond Young" will be at 8pm, September 28 (Tuesday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $100 and $150 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.). A group booking discount will be offered to each purchase of tickets for two concerts or more of the Our Music Talents' Series: "Piano Recital by Raymond Young", "Piano Recital by Kam Wing Chong" and "Anonymous Quartet".
