One of Hong Kong's most active local musicians, pianist Kam Wing Chong, will give a recital in October.
Featuring Beethoven's "Piano Sonata in D minor, 'Tempest'", Debussy's "Images, Book II", Liebermann's "Gargoyles" and Chopin's "Fantasy in F minor" and "Scherzo No. 4 in E", the recital will be at 8pm on Monday, October 11, at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
Born in Hong Kong, Kam Wing Chong began his studies at the age of five and later studied under pianists and pedagogues Eleanor Wong and Boris Berman. Since his first public concert in Hong Kong at age 10, he has performed in major cities on all the continents and collaborated with world-renowned conductors and orchestras.
Kam has many awards under his belt, including the first prizes in the 4th Junior Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City and the 1997 Hong Kong International Piano Competition, and the second prize in the 2003 CSMTA Young Artist Piano Competition in Connecticut. Kam was twice awarded the Elizabeth Parisot Prize for being the outstanding pianist of the year at Yale University and his piano trio group also won the Yale Chamber Music Competition, which led to a performance in the finale concert of the Chamber Music Society Subscription Series.
"Piano Recital by Kam Wing Chong" is one of the programmes of "Our Music Talents" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $100 and $150 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 15% is offered for the "Our Music Talents" series package.
